Minor in Computational Engineering & Applied Physics

Introduction

The Departments of Computer Science, Physics, and Mathematics offer an interdisciplinary minor in Computational Engineering & Applied Physics for the undergraduate Computer Science program. The minor is intended for students who wish to study the development and application of computational models and simulations, coupled with high-performance computing, to solve complex physical problems arising in engineering analysis and design (computational engineering) as well as natural phenomena (computational science).

The Program Educational Objectives for the Minor in Computational Engineering & Applied Physics are that the Program will produce graduates who will be:

  1. Enter graduate programs in computational science.
  2. Adapt and evolve in complex technological environments such as those found in the workplace.


The Student Outcomes for the Minor in Computational Engineering & Applied Physics are that the Program enables students to attain by the time of graduation:

  • An ability to apply their knowledge of computer science, physics, and mathematics to solve technical problems.
  • An ability to design systems, components, or processes to meet specified requirements.
  • An ability to articulate the social, professional, ethical and legal aspects of a computational environment.
  • An ability to communicate effectively, orally and in written form, individually and/or in teams.
